Sept 7 - Sat Cumbria Coastal Line to Ravenglass and then a trip on La'al Ratty to Eskdale.

The plan is to meet aboard the 09.23 train from Arnside (plenty of free parking in Arnside!) for the journey to Ravenglass. Then we’ll catch La’al Ratty at 11.30 to Eskdale, with four hours there for a walk, a beer, tea and buns or a combination of some or all of those! The return times will be to leave Eskdale at 15.50 and then catch the 17.03 train back to Arnside. However…..the train timetable changes on 7 September! So it’s probably worth checking these times nearer the time. We’ll keep you posted on the website.

The best way to buy a ticket seems to be from Northern Rail – the price from Carnforth Station for the all-inclusive fare is (currently!) £23.70 per person. We’d suggest you buy your own tickets, as it is possible to use railcards if you have them. There are no group discounts unfortunately!

Alternatively, you may wish to drive to Ravenglass and just do the Ratty journey. The return fare on La’al Ratty is £12.80.

Camping Weekend – Santon Bridge.
There is another Fellfarers’ camping meet in response to some members requesting a meet in Ennerdale.  The campsite chosen is the Old Post Office campsite at Santon Bridge.  Be advised that it is a good idea to pre-book your place particularly if we have a good summer (here’s hoping!).  The price is around £18.50 a night for 2 people, car and a tent, and they ask for a deposit of £20.  So come along and enjoy this particularly unspoilt part of the Lake District and some good company.

This pretty area abounds with good walks of all grades, dramatic gorges, big limestone crags, unspoiled meadows, caves, including the world famous show cave Grottes de Choranche, and of course with good company thrown in as well, who can resist the combination?

So if you are interested in the trip why not join us?

Scottish Small Isles Trip. The plan is to travel to Mallaig individually, and leave our vehicles there.  We will visit the islands, via ferry, travelling as foot passengers.  The accommodation on Eigg and Rum will be pre-booked, with trips to Canna and Muck being optional. The proposed timetable is -

May 10 - Friday (optional) - Arisaig to Muck 11am or 1 pm, returning to Arisaig 15.30 or 17.30
May 11 - Saturday - Mallaig to Eigg 14.25 arriving 15.40
May 12 - Sunday - on Eigg
May 13 - Monday - Eigg to Rum - ferry 11.45 arriving 12.45
May 14 - Tuesday - on Rum
May 15 - Wednesday - Rum to Mallaig - ferry 16.05 arriving 17.25 (so we should have a good 2 1/2 days on Rum)

Accommodation is booked for two nights on Eigg and two nights on Rum for eight Fellfarers.  Some members will arrive in Arisaig on Friday, 10th May for a day trip to Muck staying overnight in Arisaig or Mallaig.  The following day the whole group will meet up for the 14.25 ferry from Mallaig travelling to Eigg for two nights.  The accommodation here is varied ranging from two people sharing cocoon cabins to staying in the ‘hoose’ for bed and breakfast.  There is an opportunity here to purchase meals.  On Monday the group will leave Eigg and head to Rum to spend a further two nights there. Accommodation on this island consists of twin, double or dormitory rooms and is self- catering so luckily a shop on the island will supply our needs.  The group then returns to Mallaig on Wednesday 15th May at 17.25pm.

After an enjoyable visit to the Alexandra Hotel in Fort William last year we have re-booked the same hotel for 2013.  The Hotel is situated a 5 minute drive from the foot of Ben Nevis with the shores of Loch Linnie and Loch Eil just 10 minutes walk from the hotel.  We are booked for a five night stay from the 17th to 22nd  March.  The total price for dinner, bed and breakfast will be the same as last year (£145 per person sharing a twin or double room). Please note that dogs are charged at £5 per night and there is a single supplement of £8 per night.   Payment will be required in full before February.  If you haven’t been on one of these trips before, why not consider coming along you won’t be disappointed!  Last year we had groups going on a wide variety of walks including Munros and Corbetts, train trips to Mallaig and beyond, walks up Glen Roy and Glen Nevis, and local walks. There's just so much variety within easy reach.
