Meet at Leighton Moss car park at 2 pm (not 3) (if parking car, small donation to RSPB)
or take 11.30 X35 bus from Kenal and 12.45 train from Grange to Silverdale arriving 12.55 (not so convenient!!) Alternatively (suggested by an astute Fellfarer) park in Carnforth and take train to Silverdale at 13.47. This means you can relax over a bar meal and have your car there to drive home in. Otherwise there are frequent buses and trains running until quite late from Carnforth. The walk is about 7 miles and will take between 3 and 4 hours Bar meal at Canal Turn Pub Carnforth. | Fellrunners within the club will be sad to hear of the death of Bill Smith, who along with Fred Rogerson and Stan Bradshaw formed part of the bedrock of modern-day fell running. See his obituary by Selwyn Wright in the Guardian. | ||

| May 7 - Sat | Settle to Carlisle Railway Trip This is one of the 'world's greatest train journeys' and runs through the 72 miles of spectacular scenery. So if you are interested in coming on this trip please let Clare know as soon as possible in order to secure your place. 20 tickets have provisionally been booked at the special discounted price of £15.70 for an adult return ticket and £7.85 for children. The train will leave Settle at 9.50 am but please get there half an hour before to give you plenty of time to purchase your tickets. We will arrive in Carlisle at 11.34 am giving us nearly five hours to look around this lovely city. The train will leave Carlisle at 4.18 pm returning to Settle at 5.56 pm. Bar meals are available in Settle and information will also be obtained regarding coach or mini-bus hire from Kendal to Settle if sufficient numbers. |

| We have just heard of the tragic death in his helicopter of Mark Weir of Honister Mines. He was a great friend to the club and his death will be a great loss to the valley. The thoughts of many will be with his family. The club was represented at the funeral, and his body now lies in the graveyard at Stonethwaite Church. Others people of interest in that graveyard include some of the Edmondson family from Seathwaite farm, and Bob Graham of the eponymous 'Round'. See his obituary in the Guardian. |
